Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School Kabanana Talent Challenge
Our school, Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School in Boscombe has been closely linked for some time now with a desperately poor community called Kabanana in Lusaka, Zambia. In October 2006 one of our teachers, Marion Harrison, visited the orphans who live there as part of her work as a Trustee of the Bournemouth-based charity, Kabanana Care (Zambia) Trust. The school has been involved in several fund-raising activities, every penny of which is sent directly to the Project to keep the 140 orphans alive. In November 2007, the 436 pupils at Corpus Christi were challenged to live out the biblical ‘Parable of the Talents’. Each child was given a £1 coin with hints on how this could be used to raise money for Kabanana and asked to return the £1 coin and any other monies 4 weeks later. Well, much to our astonishment, these primary aged school children raised £2,200 after allowing for the initial outlay.
Reception (aged 4/5):
Elena Rowe raised £47.00 by organising a ‘Bouncy Castle Party’ in her own back garden.
Raddison Matthews helped to raise £110 with his older sister, Gerileigh, aged 10 through a sponsored walk.
Year 2 (aged 6/7):
Louis Naraine raised £119.63 by making and selling badges with a Kabanana theme.
Louis Edgar helped to raise £115 with his older brother,Michael aged 10 through raffling a Christmas hamper.
Year 6 (aged 10/11):
As well as the two pupils already mentioned, Shaun Barritt raised £52.29 by busking.
November 2007
On Thursday November 1st 2007, Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School, Boscombe, Bournemouth, celebrated a special Thanksgiving Mass at Corpus Christi Church, Boscombe, on behalf of the African charity they are supporting, 'Kabanana Care (Zambia) Trust'. This special mass was to celebrate the first anniversary of the school link with the Care Centre in Kabanana, a desperately poor community on the outskirts of Lusaka in Zambia. The Mass was offered by Father Dennis Blackledge and children from the school prepared the bidding prayers. One year ago, Marion Harrison, a teacher from Corpus Christi School travelled out to Zambia to carry out a pastoral survey on the plight of the 140 HIV/AIDs orphans whose lives have been saved by the work of the Kabanana Care Centre.
A special feature of this Mass was that at the very same time, a Mass was being offered by the Kabanana Care Centre at the Church of St John's in Kabanana. Father Dominique Ndagijimana, the Managing Agent for the Kabanana Centre, offered their Mass in thanksgiving for the great support given by Corpus Christi School and supporters. All 140 orphans and staff from the Kabanana Centre were present.

The Staffs are appreciative for what you have done for them.
I have a new Nurse …… Mrs Christine Montha, she is working full time. Beatrice has gone back to Government Clinic, she will be helping us only on Thursdays.
I have asked Co-ordinating Office … Sister Mary to help me to put New Nurse on allowance. She has not answered me yet.
This year we have taken 17 children to Government School. We have also taken 3 of those who were left by the office of Sister Mary. Some of them, they have lost the place at their School. We are trying to find places in other Schools. I will report on that.
