A Brief History of Kabanana Care
In 1997 we became aware of the work being done in the Kabanana district of Lusaka by Father Brendan Mc Carron, a Catholic Missionary Father.
He had initiated a new support project and rudimentary clinic, originally in an old sea-freight container to provide food and medical aid for AIDS orphans and families from the poverty stricken countryside. He had also organised a team of volunteers to visit the sick to offer counselling and basic medical assistance.

Father Brendan was driven out of Zambia in 1997 following a violent dispute with local criminal tribesmen. He left the project with little funding and likely to cease operations.
Since then we have managed to establish a link to the project through a number of local priests and managing agents, and have been able to send barely sufficient funds direct to the project to keep it in operation. There are no agents, no middle men. All of the funds are entirely for the benefit of the children and sick families that are supported by Kabanana Care. There is virtually no other funding from the Zambian Government or other charities. The orphans of Kabana Care depend entirely on us for regular food, medical assistance, clothing and education.

Over the years since the project was started we have assisted in providing foster homes for some of the orphans, clothing and of course food. There has been an education programme and some of the orphans now attend the Government school with fees and uniforms provided by Kabanana Care.
