What is Kabanana Care?

We are an independant charity with 6 part time and unpaid trustees, dedicated to raising money to sustain around 140 orphans in the Kabanana region close to Lusaka in Zambia. These children are AIDS orphans; they themselves are infected with HIV or TB and in some cases both. They live with relatives in the region and are sustained entirely from the donations we raise in England.
Our donations provide food, clothing, education and basic medical care. We also provide medical care for the adults in the community who are responsible for the orphans. We are the only significant provider for this small group.
We work through a small team of 6 people in Zambia that includes a co-ordinator, a nurse and a teacher. All are trained in counselling. This team operates using volunteers within the community.
We have no overhead costs and all the money donated reaches the needs of the orphans in Kabanana.

Our current need is to maintain this small group and ensure that the children are given proper feeding, care and education; the chance of a future.
Our vision is to provide well equipped facilities, including a medical reception centre, a small orphanage for the most vulnerable children, facilities for preparing and cooking food, improved school buildings and equipment, the means to generate a sustainable income from crop planting and local industry and enough long term funds to lift this community from sickness and poverty.

The children of Kabanana are supported by the children of Corpus Christi Primary School. Visit their website: www.corpuschristiprimary.ik.org
